Parent Education Therapy
Occupational therapists (OTs) often work closely with parents, particularly when they are providing therapy to children. This is because parents play a vital role in their child's development and well-being. Here are some ways in which occupational therapists work with parents:
1. Education and training: OTs may provide parents with information and training on how to support their child's development at home. This could include strategies for promoting fine motor skills, social skills, emotional regulation, sensory integration, or cognitive skills.
2. Collaborative goal setting: OTs and parents work together to identify the child's goals and develop a plan for achieving them.
3. Coaching and support: OTs provide coaching and support to parents as they implement therapy strategies at home. This could include modelling techniques, providing feedback, and troubleshooting challenges.
4. Advocacy: OTs may advocate for the child and family within the community, such as helping to secure appropriate school or community-based resources.
Overall, occupational therapists work closely with parents to ensure that their child is receiving the best possible care and to support their development and well-being.
